Babiana stricta 'Médit special' (Iridaceae) is a selection of the South African baboon flower, adapted to Mediterranean conditions. Like the type species native to the Cape province, this cormous geophyte produces ribbed, hairy leaves and spikes of fragrant, cup-shaped flowers in varied colours in spring. This selection is noted for its vigour and good performance in hot, dry climates. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil, keeping dry during summer dormancy; ideal in beds or pots.
