Montbretia

Crocosmia aurea (Iridaceae) is a cormous plant native to southern and eastern Africa, growing at the edges of moist forests and along shaded streams. In late summer it produces slender, arching stems bearing loose spikes of star-shaped, golden-orange flowers with widely spreading petals. It is one of the parent species of the garden montbretia (C. × crocosmiiflora). Grow in part shade, in rich, moist, humus-rich soil; less hardy than other Crocosmia species, it benefits from a protective winter mulch in cold regions.
