Moraea sp? ‘Lutea’

The exact species of this Moraea could not be confirmed with certainty; the label Lutea simply indicates yellow flowers without specifying the species, and the following description is therefore given at genus level. Moraea is a very large genus of Iridaceae, with over 220 species, more than 120 of them endemic to the Cape Floral Region of South Africa. Most are winter-growing cormous plants with short-lived, star-shaped or miniature iris-like flowers, often yellow or purple, sometimes strikingly marked with contrasting peacock-eye centres. Cultivation requires well-drained soil and a sunny position, with a dry summer rest.
