Moraea sp? ‘Oudshoorn’

The precise species of this Moraea, originating from the Oudtshoorn area in the Little Karoo (Western Cape, South Africa), could not be confirmed with certainty; the description is therefore given at genus level. Moraea is a large Iridaceae genus of over 220 species, found mainly in sub-Saharan Africa, more than 120 of them endemic to the Cape Floristic Region. The plants grow from a globose corm with firm tunics, are mostly winter-growing and summer-dormant, and produce flowers resembling small beardless irises, in purple, yellow or contrasting colour combinations. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
