Muscari moschatum is a bulbous plant from the Mediterranean and Near East, in the Asparagaceae family, cultivated for centuries for its characteristic musky fragrance. Its tubular flowers, initially brownish-purple then turning yellow-green as they mature, are gathered in a dense raceme in spring. The narrow, somewhat fleshy foliage appears in late winter. This species thrives in well-drained, sunny soil with a dry summer rest, and suits fragrant borders or pots placed near paths.
