Muscari armeniacum « Blue Spike »

A double-flowered selection of Armenian grape hyacinth (native to the Caucasus, Turkey and the Balkans), 'Blue Spike' bears dense spring spikes of small, bright blue, plush double flowers, with 2 to 3 florets per pedicel instead of the usual one. Producing no seed, its flowers last longer than those of the species. The narrow green foliage forms a low clump 15-20 cm tall. Easy to grow in well-drained soil and full sun, it naturalises by vegetative increase and suits borders, rock gardens and open woodland edges.
