Narcissus humilis

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
Narcissus humilis is a synonym of Narcissus cavanillesii, a bulbous Amaryllidaceae 8-18 cm tall, native to the southwestern Iberian Peninsula and northwest Africa (Morocco, Algeria). Unusually for the genus, its corona is almost entirely absent, which led to it once being placed in a separate genus. It grows in clearings, scrubland, Mediterranean pastures and roadsides, from sea level to 730 m, under a sub-humid Mediterranean climate. Its autumn flowering is followed by a marked summer dormancy. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
