Neomarica humilis

Native to Brazil, Neomarica humilis belongs to the tribe Trimezieae within the Iridaceae. Like other species of the genus, it grows from a thick rhizome and propagates through small plantlets that develop on the stem at the very point where flowers were previously borne. The narrow, strap-shaped foliage resembles that of an iris. The fragrant flowers, about 5 to 10 cm across, also resemble iris blooms but each lasts only around 18 hours, though flowering continues in succession over a long period. It prefers rich soil, part shade, and consistent moisture.
