Nerine appendiculata

Native to the marshy, summer-rainfall areas of South Africa, from the Eastern Cape through central and south-western KwaZulu-Natal, Nerine appendiculata is a bulb with evergreen, narrow, grass-like leaves 20 to 40 cm long. Between December and April it produces a richly flowered terminal inflorescence of bright pink, occasionally near-white flowers, with characteristic long white appendages at the base of the stamens. Unlike the autumn-flowering Cape nerines, this summer-growing species prefers soil that stays cool and moist, a sunny position, and does not require a dry summer dormancy.
