Nerine krigei

Native to the Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa, where it was first found near Johannesburg in the 1930s by J. D. Krige, Nerine krigei is a summer-growing bulb reaching 30 to 60 cm. It is distinguished by its broad, flat leaves that twist into a spiral, giving it the common name corkscrew nerine. Pale pink flowers, with a dark green midrib flushed pink, open in a terminal umbel in late summer, from January to March in its native range. Flowering is reliable each year but requires prior winter chilling. Grow in well-drained, sunny conditions; not threatened in the wild.
