Nerine masoniorum

This rather small nerine is very easy to grow and flower. It is a summer grower, blooming in the late summer to fall.They are almost evergreen in a mild winter climate, when should be kept somewhat on the dry side in. Mild frosts are reputed to do no harm.
The genus
The south african genus Nerine is well known as a cutflower, but also makes an excellent garden plant. The almost evergreen species from the eastern part of South Africa (Eastern Cape, Natal and Transvaal) have a very short dormancy after flowering in December. The following species can be transplanted during winter : N. bowdenii , N. undulata and N. filifolia. In the warmer regions these plants need partial shade. The wintergrowing (summerdormant) species, featured in our summer catalog, come from the Western Cape. This section includes the less hardy N. sarniensis and its hybrids, beautiful cutflowers available in many different shades.
