Nerine undulata/bowdenii hybride
A horticultural hybdrid between N. bowdenii and N undulata.The latter grows naturally in the Eastern Cape (South Africa) on steep (southfacing) slopes in partial shade. Each bulb produces in November several stalks with small fine petalled pale pink flowers with strongly crisped margins. The hybrid which is 20cm taller than N undulata with broader leaves also is an evergreen species with a slight diedown after flowering and renewal of the leaves during mid winter. In a dry summer it can also loose its leaves which reappear in september. The foliage resists frosts down to -- 7°C. A great garden plant which adapts well to various conditions and also does well in pots.
The genus
he south african genus Nerine is well known as a cutflower, but also makes an excellent garden plant. The almost evergreen species from the eastern part of South Africa (Eastern Cape, Natal and Transvaal) have a very short dormancy after flowering in December. The following species can be transplanted during winter : N. bowdenii , N. undulata and N. filifolia. In the warmer regions these plants need partial shade. The wintergrowing (summerdormant) species, featured in our summer catalog, come from the Western Cape. This section includes the less hardy N. sarniensis and its hybrids, beautiful cutflowers available in many different shades.
