Odontoglossum rossii

Native to cloud forests in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua, between 2000 and 3000 m elevation, Rhynchostele rossii (formerly Odontoglossum rossii) is a miniature, cold to cool growing epiphytic orchid. Its small pseudobulbs, about 2 cm, bear leaves roughly 10 cm long. In early spring, flowers surprisingly large for the plant's size, up to 8 cm, appear at the base of new growths, with sepals heavily blotched brown and a lip marked by a bright yellow callus. It is best grown in a basket, with constant humidity and moderate light.
