Olsynium junceum, formerly classified in the genus Sisyrinchium, is an Iridaceae native to the Andes, ranging from Peru through Bolivia to Argentina and Chile. It is a tufted mountain plant forming clumps of fine, grass-like leaves about 30 cm tall, growing from a rhizome. In the wild it grows on sunny, rocky slopes between 1000 and 2600 m elevation. The flowers, borne in small star-shaped clusters, are white, pale pink, or bright pink depending on the population. In cultivation it suits rock gardens and pots well, in well-drained soil and full sun, and tolerates winter cold well thanks to its mountain origin.
