Ornithogalum saundersiae — giant Chinchirenchee
This species comes from summer rain areas (North of Natal, Swaziland and Transvaal). Flowers with 80cm tall flower stems. Does very well in open ground in mild coastal areas where it can stay green untill mid winter.In wet and colder areas bulbs should be lifted and stored dry.
The genus
The genus consists mainly of winter-growing species from Europe, the Near East and South Africa which are available for planting during the summer and autumn. A few evergreen or winter-dormant species come from the eastern part of South Africa which are presented in our winterplanting catalog.
