Oxalis natans

Oxalis natans is an unusual species within the genus, being one of the few Oxalis with an amphibious to fully aquatic lifestyle, growing in still or slow-moving water in South Africa. Its stem is creeping or floating, slender and branched at the base, bearing trifoliate leaves arranged in a floating rosette at the water's surface. As in other Oxalis, flowering produces small, typical five-petalled flowers. Its unusual biology makes it more of a botanical curiosity than a conventional garden plant; in cultivation it requires a wet to aquatic environment in a sunny position.
