Paradisia liliastrum

Native to the Alps, Pyrenees and Apennines, Paradisea liliastrum, or St Bruno's lily, grows in sunny meadows, forest clearings and rocky slopes from the montane to subalpine belt. This rhizomatous perennial forms a clump of 6 to 8 basal linear leaves up to 25 cm long, and produces an erect 30-50 cm stem bearing a one-sided raceme of 2 to 10 fragrant, funnel-shaped white flowers 3-5 cm long. It flowers in June-July. It prefers sun to part shade and cool but well-drained soil.
