Pasithea caerulea

Known locally as azulillo, Pasithea caerulea is a tuberous Asphodelaceae native to Chile and Peru, growing in dry, shrubby habitats of Mediterranean-type climate. The tuberous, contractile roots support a basal tuft of narrow, strap-shaped, almost grass-like leaves. In the austral spring to summer a slender 60 cm stem bears an airy panicle of small, deep blue, star-shaped flowers with cream anthers. It requires full sun, well-drained soil, and the dry summer dormancy typical of geophytes from Mediterranean Chile.
