The genus

The genus includes 9 species, 6 of which are found only in Ecuador, the remaining three being from Colombia, Costa Rica and Peru. They are largely mountain species, where they grow in disturbed areas, often colonizing road cuts, and usually coming into bloom after the dry summer season in their native lands. Theseplants are characterized by petiolated glossy green, or greyish green leaves. The umbels with 5-15 flowers, mostly large tubular with pink, yellow or red variously banded in green.
