The genus Phaedranassa (Amaryllidaceae), the queen of the Andes, comprises around a dozen bulbous species from the Andes of Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica and Peru, growing in often-disturbed montane areas. The leaves are glossy green, grey-green or bloomed. The stem bears an umbel of large, pendulous, tubular flowers, pink to red and orange, often zoned with green, generally opening after the dry season. Said to be easy to grow and free-flowering once established, it requires well-drained soil and a dry rest period in the hot season. Precise species not confirmed, description given at genus level.
