The genus Phaedranassa (Amaryllidaceae), the Queen of the Andes, comprises about ten bulbous species from the Andes of Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica and Peru, growing in montane, often disturbed sites. Leaves are glossy green, grey-green or covered in a dusty bloom. The stem bears an umbel of large, pendulous, tubular flowers in pink, red and orange shades, often banded green, generally opening after the dry season. Considered easy and reliably free-flowering once established, it needs well-drained soil and a dry rest in the warm season. As the exact species could not be confirmed, this description covers the genus generally.
