Phaedranassa schizantha

Endemic to Ecuador, where it grows in dry subtropical scrub of the inter-Andean valleys, Phaedranassa schizantha is a bulbous Amaryllidaceae listed as vulnerable by the IUCN owing to habitat loss. The tunicated bulb with contractile roots bears elliptic-lanceolate leaves and a stem topped by an umbel of tubular pink to salmon flowers, striped green toward the tip, with short stamens and style. Flowering occurs in the Andean spring-summer. It requires bright light, well-drained, humus-rich soil, and moderate watering, reduced after flowering.
