Calostemma purpureum (Amaryllidaceae), the garland lily, is a bulbous plant native to south-eastern Australia, growing in open woodland and near watercourses. In autumn, ahead of the leaves, it sends up a sturdy stem bearing an umbel of 8 to 30 trumpet-shaped flowers, purple to reddish-pink, sometimes tinged yellow at the base. Grow in full sun or part shade, in well-drained soil; reasonably hardy and tolerant of summer drought, but protect from severe frost.
