Rauhia peruviana

Endemic to northern Peru, growing in the dry, rocky Marañón and Utcubamba river valleys between 1000 and 1500 m, Rauhia peruviana is the type species of a small bulbous Amaryllidaceae genus, now often treated as a synonym of Rauhia multiflora. Its large bulb produces 1 to 4 fleshy, tongue-shaped, petiolate leaves with a finely papillose surface, held close to the sandy ground. The plant grows through summer and rests in winter dormancy. Native to semi-desert terrain, it tolerates drought well and needs moderate watering in the growing season, little to none in winter.
