Freesia refracta

Freesia refracta is a cormous species native to South Africa, one of the main wild species behind modern garden freesias through hybridisation with Freesia leichtlinii. Its slender, arching stem bears a one-sided spike of highly fragrant, cream to pale yellow, funnel-shaped flowers in spring. It grows naturally in sandy areas of the Western Cape. In cultivation it needs a sunny, sheltered position, light, well-drained soil, and a dry summer rest during the corm's dormant period.
