Romulea citrina

Native to Namaqualand in South Africa, where it grows on sandy or stony ground, granite slopes and seasonal watercourses, Romulea citrina is a small cormous plant reaching 8-12 cm tall (up to 30 cm in flower), with linear, often curved basal leaves. Flowering occurs in the southern-hemisphere spring, in August and September: the flowers, 22-40 mm long, are lemon to canary yellow, with the backs of the outer tepals often greenish or brownish. The species requires perfectly drained soil, full sun, and a strictly dry summer dormancy, the corm remaining at rest until the autumn rains return.
