Romulea clusiana

Native to the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal, southwest and south Spain) and northwest Africa, Romulea clusiana, the sand crocus, is the showiest Romulea in the Mediterranean. It grows in colonies in coastal sands and dunes, notably along the Cadiz coast. The corm produces very long, thin basal leaves (10-40 cm) and, on a plant only 10-15 cm tall, one to three large, 30-35 mm flowers, purplish-pink with darker veining and a deep yellow to orange throat edged in white.
