Romulea crocea

The name "Romulea crocea" does not correspond to a currently recognised distinct species: it most often refers to a yellow-orange-flowered variety of Romulea bulbocodium (R. bulbocodium var. crocea), widespread across the Mediterranean basin. Like the type species, this cormous geophyte grows in rocky and sandy places, producing fine, thread-like leaves and short tubular flowers on wiry stems, here in shades of yellow to orange rather than violet. Flowering occurs from late winter into spring. It requires well-drained soil, a sunny position, and a dry summer rest period.
