Romulea cruciata

Endemic to the Cape Province, South Africa, Romulea cruciata grows on sandstone and granite slopes and rocks, widespread across the winter-rainfall zone. This cormous Iridaceae produces, from July to September, magenta to lilac flowers marked with dark blotches around a deep yellow throat. Several varieties are recognised within the species. It requires well-drained soil, a sunny position and a dry summer rest.
