Romulea hartungii

Romulea hartungii, now often treated as Romulea columnae subsp. hartungii (synonym R. grandiscapa), is a small cormous plant endemic to the Canary Islands. Like other Mediterranean romuleas, it produces thread-like foliage and a short flowering stem bearing, in late winter or early spring, a star-shaped flower with pointed tepals, purple with darker veining and a yellow throat. Small in stature, it grows in full sun, on well-drained soil, and undergoes a dry summer dormancy after flowering, typical of geophytes from the Mediterranean basin and Macaronesia.
