Romulea kamisensis

Endemic to a small area of the Kamiesberg range in Namaqualand (Northern and Western Cape, South Africa), Romulea kamisensis is a very rare species growing in sandy loam. This cormous Iridaceae reaches 10 to 15 cm tall, with a corm bearing a small crescent-shaped basal ridge. Its flowers are magenta-purple, with a violet centre and violet-streaked throat. It flowers in late winter and early spring, and is propagated from seed or by dividing the corm. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position, with a dry summer rest.
