Romulea nivalis

Native to the mountains of Lebanon, where it flowers at the edge of melting snow patches in wet montane meadows, Romulea nivalis is a late-flowering species of the genus, blooming from late March into early April. Its narrow, wiry leaves accompany good-sized, cone-shaped flowers typical of the genus, variable from white to purple (sometimes white with purple on the reverse), all with a contrasting yellow throat. Although montane in origin, it has proved fully hardy in cultivation. It needs well-drained soil that stays cool during growth, and a sunny position.
