The precise species of this Romulea (labelled sp1 on the original tag) could not be confirmed; the description is therefore given at genus level. Romulea comprises around a hundred small cormous geophytes from southern Africa and the Mediterranean basin, colonising lean grassland, coastal garrigue and well-drained sandy soils. The tunicated corm produces a tuft of narrow, often cylindrical, grooved leaves, shorter than the flowering stem, which bears one to a few star-shaped, cup-form flowers of variable colour (white, yellow, pink or violet) depending on the species. Flowering occurs in late winter to spring, followed by dry summer dormancy.
