Romulea zahnii

Native to Morocco, Romulea zahnii is a cormous geophyte forming compact tufts of fine, rigid leaves. In spring it bears crocus-like, flared cup flowers, purple with a yellow centre and bronze-gold feathering on the outside, delicately clove-scented. Like other Romulea from the Moroccan mountains, it grows in a sunny position, in well-drained, stony to sandy soil, and becomes dormant in summer after flowering, when the corm should be kept protected from moisture.
