Tulbaghia simmleri

Tulbaghia simmleri (synonym Tulbaghia fragrans) is a bulbous perennial native to South Africa, in the Amaryllidaceae family. Its narrow leaves, evergreen in mild climates, give off a light garlic scent. From late winter to spring, a stem bears an umbel of highly fragrant, pale mauve to pink tubular flowers, especially scented in the evening. It grows in a sunny position, well-drained soil, and needs winter protection in cold climates, unlike some hardier species in the genus.
