As no species name is specified, this plant belongs to the genus Sinningia, in the family Gesneriaceae, which comprises about 80 species, all native to South America, chiefly Brazil. Most species are tuberous, with a persistent swollen rootstock, and grow as lithophytes or epiphytes across a wide range of habitats: rainforests, savannahs, highland grasslands, peat bogs or rocky outcrops. The leaves are opposite, often fleshy and hairy; the tubular to bell-shaped flowers come in a wide range of colors. Cultivation requires bright light without direct sun, humus-rich, well-drained substrate, and a dry winter rest period.
