Tulipa sprengeri is a botanical tulip native to the Amasya region of Turkey, now considered extinct in the wild but widely preserved in cultivation since its introduction to Europe in the late 19th century. It is one of the latest-flowering tulips, borne on a stem 30-45 cm tall with smooth green leaves. In late spring to early summer it produces a red to orange-red flower, its outer tepals often flushed buff, with yellow anthers on red filaments. It is grown in full sun on well-drained soil, and self-seeds readily where conditions suit it.
