Sternbergia sicula

Native to the eastern Mediterranean (Italy, Greece, Turkey), where it grows on rocky limestone hills, Sternbergia sicula is a bulbous perennial in the Amaryllidaceae family. Narrow, dark green leaves with a greyish central stripe appear together with the flowers. In early autumn, small, goblet-shaped, bright golden-yellow flowers open on short stems only a few centimetres tall. It grows well in full sun, in well-drained soil, with a dry summer rest period after flowering.
