Strumaria tenella

Native to the winter-rainfall regions of South Africa, where it grows on seasonally damp flats, Strumaria tenella forms a small, solitary, globose bulb 7 to 18 mm in diameter, with light greyish-brown to cream fibrous tunics and a long neck up to 60 mm. Filiform leaves emerge in succession, so only one to four are visible at any time. Between April and July it produces a starry inflorescence of small white to pink flowers, with tepals 4.5 to 7 mm long and a style swollen at the base. The plant requires well-drained sandy soil, full sun, and a dry summer dormancy.
