Tigridia dugesii

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
Native to semi-arid regions of Mexico, where it is known locally as 'jahuique de Tupátaro', Tigridia dugesii — sometimes placed in synonymy under Nemastylis dugesii or Tigridia flava — is a small cormous geophyte reaching barely 6 cm in height, far more modest than most other species of the genus. Like other Tigridia, it produces ephemeral, brightly coloured, three-petaled flowers in summer, each lasting only a single day before being replaced by new buds. It requires well-drained soil, full sun, active summer growth, and winter protection from frost.
