The genus Tigridia (Iridaceae) includes roughly 30-50 bulbous species native to Mexico and Central America, with a few extending into South America. The tunicated bulb produces a fan of pleated leaves and a stem 40-60 cm tall. Flowers have three large spreading outer tepals alternating with three smaller ones, centred on a spotted, tiger-like eye; each bloom lasts only a day but is followed by successive flowers through summer. Colours range from white to red, orange and yellow. Grown in full sun and well-drained soil; as the exact species could not be confirmed, this description covers the genus generally.
