The genus

A genus from Western America and especially from California, which is closely related to Brodiaea. All species flower late in Mai and June with umbels of funnel shaped flowers. An interesting remark on the IBS bulb forum: "that they are invaluable for Mediterranean and almost Mediterranean climates. In Tucson, they handled the summer rain without complaint; just to be safe, I planted them under ground covers or next to summer-growing perennials and bushes to soak up the rain. The winter cold shouldn't be a problem, but I'll need to irrigate them." But they have also been seen flowering in July in (rainy) England as perenial borderplant. Conclusion: a very adaptable plant for many sorts of climate.
