Tritonia squalida

Endemic to the Western Cape, Tritonia squalida is confined to the Riversdale, Albertinia and Stilbaai area, where its habitat is shrinking under crop cultivation and urban development. This cormous Iridaceae has linear leaves in two ranks and a sparse spike of cup- to funnel-shaped flowers in spring or summer. The flowers are pink to pale mauve, almost white, with deeper pink veins and claws bearing a hyaline marginal zone. Threatened in the wild by invasive plants, it is grown in well-drained soil and full sun, like most Cape Tritonia species.
