Tritonia watermeyeri

Long regarded as a distinct species, Tritonia watermeyeri is now treated as a subspecies of Tritonia securigera, following the discovery of intermediate forms linking the two. Native to the far western Little Karoo, it survives at fewer than ten sites as small, localised, naturally rare subpopulations. This cormous Iridaceae reaches 15 to 30 cm tall, with wavy leaves and bright orange to orange-yellow, rarely pure yellow, flowers, whose lower petals bear a distinctive bright yellow tooth. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
