Achimenes tubiflora

Sinningia tubiflora (Gesneriaceae) is a tuberous perennial native to Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. Its hairy, grey-green foliage forms a low mound from which tall stems rise in late summer, bearing slender white tubular flowers that are lightly scented and rich in nectar, attracting hummingbirds and sphinx moths. The plant goes dormant in winter, when the tuber must be protected from frost. Grow in full sun to part shade, in well-drained soil, with moderate watering during active growth.
