Tulbaghia capensis

Native to South Africa, mainly the Eastern and Western Cape provinces, Tulbaghia capensis is a bulbous perennial in the Amaryllidaceae family. An underground corm produces a tuft of fleshy, linear leaves, followed by a flowering stem bearing an umbel of purplish-green, night-scented flowers with an orange corona. Flowering occurs from autumn to late spring, following the winter-rainfall pattern of its rocky habitat. It grows best in full sun, in well-drained soil, with a dry summer rest period.
