Tulipa cretica

Tulipa cretica, the Cretan tulip, is a species endemic to the island of Crete, growing on rocky slopes, cliffs and mountain summits from sea level up to 2000 m. It is a small bulbous plant rarely exceeding 25 cm, tough and long-lived. Between March and May it produces up to three star-shaped flowers per stem, white and tinged pink on the outside of the petals, with a bright yellow centre. Adapted to poor, well-drained soils, it grows in full sun and requires a pronounced summer drought after flowering.
