Tulipa eichleri

Native to the Caucasus (Georgia, Azerbaijan and the north-eastern Caucasus), Tulipa eichleri grows in dry, stony habitats of the foothills and montane zone, on rocky slopes, among shrubs and in steppes. It bears broad, glaucous leaves with slightly wavy margins and reaches 25-30 cm in height. In spring it produces a large, brilliant scarlet-red flower with a black basal blotch edged in yellow. Closely related to Tulipa undulatifolia, of which it is now considered a synonym, it requires full sun, well-drained soil, and a dry, warm summer rest.
