Tulipa ferganica

Native to Central Asia, particularly the mountains surrounding the Fergana Valley in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, Tulipa ferganica grows on arid, rocky hillsides. This small botanical tulip, 15-25 cm tall, has narrow, glaucous leaves with wavy margins. In spring it bears a bright yellow flower, the three outer tepals flushed brownish-pink on the reverse. Like most Central Asian botanical tulips, it requires full sun, poor, stony, well-drained soil, and a dry, warm summer rest, mimicking the conditions of its native mountain habitat.
