Tulipa neustreuva

Described as Tulipa neustruevae by Evguenia Pobedimova in 1949, this tulip is now regarded as a synonym, or a low-altitude form, of Tulipa dasystemon, native to the Tian Shan mountains of Central Asia. About 15 cm tall, it bears two pairs of glossy green leaves and produces one to three fragrant, bright golden-yellow flowers, the outer tepals tinged olive to brown on the outside. Low-altitude populations bearing this name are brighter and glossier than high-altitude ones. It requires well-drained soil, a sunny position and a dry summer rest.
