Vallota is an old genus name, now a synonym of Cyrtanthus, under which its single species Vallota speciosa was long classified — better known today as Cyrtanthus elatus, the Scarborough lily. This evergreen bulbous plant, native to the Cape Province of South Africa, bears large, scarlet, trumpet-shaped flowers above leathery, strap-shaped leaves. Grow in full sun or bright part shade, in rich, well-drained soil; frost-tender, keep frost-free in cold climates.
